Apostolates

Called to Serve

The love of Christ urges us on to serve in the active apostolate. “Only if we are deeply rooted in God, only if we, as spouses of Jesus Christ, seek and fulfill His holy will, only then can we be successful in our apostolate” (Bl. Maria Theresia Bonzel). Our perpetual adoration flows into works of mercy in healthcare and education.

Perpetual Adoration

Our main charism and primary apostolate is Perpetual Adoration of our Divine Bridegroom. In our hours of adoration, we intercede for the needs of the Church and the world and offer reparation in the spirit of St. Francis, who lamented, “Love is not loved!” We pray intentionally for our families, benefactors, coworkers, and all those encountered in our apostolates.

Healthcare

Following in the footsteps of the Divine Physician and our foundress, we sponsor Franciscan Health, serving with joy and compassion all patients who come to our facilities. Our healthcare system offers holistic care that upholds the ethical guidelines and teachings of the Church. Sisters serve in clinical, administrative, and mission roles.

Education

Our mission in Catholic schools “requires a commitment of holiness, generosity, and skilled educational professionalism so that the truth about the person as revealed by Jesus may enlighten the growth of the young generations” (Consecrated Persons and Their Mission in Schools, 6). We serve in Catholic grade schools and high schools and sponsor the University of Saint Francis.

“Let us gladly spend ourselves in the service of the Lord, and beg him to bless our labor.”
—Blessed Maria Theresia Bonzel, Foundress

Service at the Motherhouse

Our prayer, work, and suffering are all part of the salvific mission of the Church. Through prayer and suffering, Sisters who by age or illness cannot participate in active apostolates continue to share in the good works of the Community. Sisters also offer Franciscan hospitality to coworkers and guests at the Motherhouse.
